Compostela Valley town mayor killed in ambush
(Updated 10:55 a.m.) A mayor of a town in Compostela Valley was killed in an ambush at the boundary of Davao del Norte and Compostela Valley provinces Wednesday morning.
Laak town mayor Reynaldo Navarro was on his way to Davao City when armed men ambushed his convoy at about 9 a.m., radio dzBB's Glen Juego reported.
Capt. Ernesto Carolina, spokesman of the Army's 10th Infantry Division, was quoted in the report as saying the ambush occurred at Barangay Sagayen in Asuncion town in Davao del Norte.
Navarro was declared dead on arrival at a hospital, Carolina was quoted in the report as saying.
Also, Carolina cited initial information indicating at least two more people were hit by gunfire, but it was not immediately clear if these were Navarro's companions or from the assailants' side. — Joel Locsin /LBG, GMA News
