Brake failure blamed in Bukidnon truck crash that killed 3, injured 32
A brake failure is being blamed for the crash of a truck into the Simod River in Kitaotao in Bukidnon on Sunday, where three people were killed and 32 others were injured.
The truck was heading for Davao when it went out of control and crashed, GMA Davao's Helen Quiñanola reported on GMA News' Unang Balita on Monday.
An initial investigation showed the truck was carrying families who attended a religious convention in Valencia City in Bukidnon.
Witnesses were quoted in the report as saying the driver was asking for help after losing control of the truck, which hit the edge of the bridge and hit a rock before it fell into the river.
"Kung dumiretso siya sa tulay, tiyak na mas marami ang mamamatay, kaya sinadya na lang siguro ng driver na idiretso ang truck sa ilog upang maligtas ang iba," said one witness.
Dr. Genhre Rolf, resident physician at the Buda Community Health Care Center, said eight of those hurt suffered severe injuries.
"We were quite busy to attend all these patients but we're very lucky all of them stayed alive for transport," he said. — Joel Locsin/RSJ, GMA News
