DepEd: 1k students in Zambo City not yet back in school 5 months after siege
Education officials are reassessing the school situation in Zamboanga City after learning at least 1,000 students have yet to return to school five months after a failed siege there.
The Department of Education received reports from the city government the students have yet to resume regular classes, radio dzBB's Rodil Vega reported Wednesday.
DepEd assistant secretary Tonesito Umali said DepEd Secretary Armin Luistro was concerned and ordered the department office in Zamboanga City to reassess the situation there.
The dzBB report said the DepEd will base its responses on the findings of the assessment team.
Classes in the city were disrupted last September, when followers of Moro National Liberation Front founding chairman Nur Misuari tried to occupy parts of the city.
Government forces eventually repelled Misuari's followers after nearly a month of fighting. — LBG, GMA News
