Davao City residents advised to evacuate as rain continues, rivers rise
Residents in areas of Davao City were advised before dawn Sunday to leave their homes due to flooding caused by the continuous rain. Davao City's City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said the Talomo River was quickly rising at 12:33 a.m., Sunday. Residents in the area were thus advised to preemptively evacuate. The city government also noted that the Davao River overflowed at the El Rio Muslim area. Rescue volunteers and dump trucks were dispatched to help in the evacuation. The Tamugan River was also rising and could cause possible flooding during the high tide. Meanwhile, there was a possibility of flooding at the Jade Valley, and residents were similarly advised "to be ready for possible evacuation." PAGASA had explained that the heavy rain over Mindanao was due to a low-pressure area off General Santos City. Additionally, the weather service advised that there would be "light to moderate with occasional heavy rain" over Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor, Negros Oriental, Negros Occidental, Southern Leyte, Leyte, and Biliran. — DVM, GMA News
