Residents in Yolanda-hit Tacloban flock to venues showing Pacquiao bout
TACLOBAN CITY — For a few hours Sunday, residents forgot their woes from Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) to watch boxing hero and Sarabgani Rep. Emmanuel "Manny" Pacquiao mix it up in the ring with Brandon Rios.
Despite the searing heat, residents brought umbrellas and patiently sat down at the venues to wait for the telecast of the fight to start.
At City Hall, umbrella-carrying residents crowded tents showing the matches before the main fight.
People also crowded a plaza where a screen mounted on a truck showed the match.
At the city astrodome, many also showed up to see the matches.
Tacloban City folk are still recovering from the effects of Yolanda, which devastated parts of Visayas and Southern Luzon.
