NDRRMC: Cotabato under state of calamity due to quake
The entire province of Cotabato has been placed under state of calamity in the wake of a magnitude-5.7 quake last June 1, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (NDRRMC) said Thursday.
In an update posted on its website Thursday afternoon, the NDRRMC also said at least 233 aftershocks have been recorded while 2,578 people had been affected by the quake.
"On June 4, 2013, th Sangguniang Panlalawigan Cotabato Province declared the entire province of Cotabato under a state of calamity through SP resolution No. 204," it said.
The resolution was based on a request by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on June 3.
The NDRRMC also said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology had recorded 233 aftershocks as of 5 p.m. Wednesday, 13 of which were felt.
It added 484 families or 2,578 people in eight villages were affected by the quake, and that 52 school buildings were either totally or partially damaged, 37 of which were in Carmen town.
At least 289 houses, two bridges, and 17 village halls, churches and covered courts also sustained damage.
The NDRRMC added 61 houses were totally damaged while 228 were partially damaged. — KBK, GMA News
