Lolong's tissue samples brought to UPLB for analysis

Tissue samples of Lolong, the Philippine saltwater crocodile that held the record of being the world's largest crocodile before it died last Sunday, were brought to Laguna for analysis.

 

Lolong's samples were brought to the University of the Philippines in Los Baños so researchers can determine the crocodile's cause of death, "Saksi" reported Thursday.

 

 

But the analysis may take time—up to two weeks—to complete, the report said.

 

On Sunday, Lolong died in Agusan del Sur province, where it had been a major tourist attraction.

 

Local authorities are planning to set up a museum and preserve Lolong's body as a memorial to the crocodile.

 

Until Lolong's death, it was recognized by Guinness World Records as the world's largest crocodile in captivity.

 

The distinction has since been returned to Cassius, a crocodile in Australia. —KG, GMA News
