NDRRMC: 2 missing teachers in Batangas flood found dead
Two teachers who were reported missing in the wake of a flash flood in Batangas province last Wednesday were found dead Saturday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Sunday. In its 6 a.m. report, the NDRRMC said the two were found dead at Sitio Buhi in Barangay Tayuman in Lobo town in Batangas. Found dead were Jona Driz and Efren Lontoc, it said. This brought to five the number of fatalities in Wednesday's incident. Earlier reported killed were Emeliana Lontoc, Menchie Degayeta and Nelia Gweco, while a sixth, Jeurtrudes Indecio was rescued. Meanwhile, Department of Education Secretary Armin Luistro over the weekend went to Batangas to pay his respects to the three teachers. A post on the DepEd's Twitter account Saturday night indicated Luistro visited the wake of the three teachers from Lobo town in Batangas. Many teachers in the town observed a moment of silence to offer prayers for the three fatalities. The NDRRMC said the incident occurred last Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Barangay Nagtaluntong in Lobo town. It said the teachers were aboard a jeep crossing the river when a strong current swept the vehicle away. — LBG, GMA News
