Guinness recognizes 'Lolong' as largest croc in captivity — Bunawan town execs
"Lolong," the giant reptile captured last year in Agusan del Sur, has been recognized by Guinness World Records as the world's largest crocodile in captivity, according to local officials of Bunawan, Agusan del Sur Friday.
Bunawan officials said, in various reports on GMA News' newscasts that they received a certification from Guinness giving the distinction to "Lolong."
The local officials were quoted as saying that the Guinness certification on "Lolong" will boost tourism in their province.
"Lolong" was captured in September 2011 in the Agusan Marsh, with an Australian zoologist measuring it at 20 feet and three inches.
A separate report on Radyo Mo Nationwide said Bunawan Mayor Edwin Elorde read the text of the certification during a celebration Thursday night.
However, as of 6 p.m. Friday, the Guinness World Records website still listed "Cassius" of Australia as the largest crocodile in captivity.
It said "Cassius" was measured at 17 feet and 11.75 inches. — ELR, GMA News
