Palace: February 24 special nonworking day in Zamboanga Sibugay
February 24, Friday, will be a special nonworking day in Zamboanga Sibugay as it marks its 11th Charter Anniversary, Malacañang said Saturday. President Benigno Aquino III declared this through Proclamation No. 330 signed by Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. last February 7. "President Aquino issued the declaration to give the province the full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with fitting ceremonies," Malacañang said in a statement. Zamboanga Sibugay, located in the Zamboanga Peninsula region in Mindanao, was created by virtue of Republic Act No. 8973 on February 24, 2001. It will hold the Sibug-Sibug Festival to celebrate its Charter Day. "The festivity is marked by colorful ethnic street dancing that depicts good harvest, wedding, and healing ritual," the Palace said. The festival also promotes the province's primary produce, the oyster or talaba. — LBG, GMA News
