RP awards plaques, certificates to 41 Brunei peace monitors


MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine government awarded on Monday plaques and certificates of appreciation to the commander of the Brunei contingent of the International Monitoring Team and four other former leaders and 36 members of the Brunei team for their contribution in monitoring the peace process in Mindanao. The awards were presented during a simple ceremony at the Philippine Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan, capital of Brunei. Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Hermogenes C. Esperon Jr. was represented by Philippine Ambassador to Brunei Virginia H. Benavidez. The honorees were led by Brunei Army Lt. Col. Pengiran Tajuddin bin Pg Hj Kasim “for his valuable role" as Brunei contingent head of the IMT Batches 4-5 for the years 2006-2008. Esperon cited Kasim for Brunei’s prominent participation during peace negotiations between the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front. Others who received plagues of appreciation Air Force Lt. Col. Ali bin Haji Sabar, head of the Brunei IMT contingent Batch 3 for the years 2006-2007; Army Lt. Col. Haji Jol Jublee bin Hj Bangkol, head of the Brunei IMT contingent Batch 2 for the years 2005-2006; Army Col. Haji Aminuddin Ehsan bin Hj Abidin, head of the Brunei IMT contingent Batch 1 for the years 2004-2005; and ret. Lt. Col. Mohd Arifin bin Haji Mohd Tarif, former head of the Brunei IMT contingent Batch 3. Esperon praised the leaders and members of the Brunei IMT contingent for their “performance that helped pave the way for a clearer path to peace in Mindanao, and for the preservation of order and stability in Southern Philippines." He commended each of the Brunei team for "praiseworthy and notable adherence to the highest values of dedicated public service, especially in the tenacious pursuit of the Comprehensive Peace Process, and for unwavering commitment to peace and inspiring conduct as a distinguished officer and true gentleman of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces."
