Marcos still wants anti-dynasty bill passed during his term —Palace

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. remains committed to the passage of an anti-political dynasty law during his term, Malacañang said Wednesday.

“‘Yan pa rin ang nais ng pangulo na maipasa sa panahon niya at sa kanyang administrasyon — itong anti-political dynasty bill,” Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro said in a briefing

(It remains the President’s desire that the Anti-Political Dynasty Bill be passed during his term and under his administration.)

“So hintayin na lang po natin kung papaano at hanggang kelan ito magkakaroon ng bicam, dahil sa ating pagkakaalam, ang Senado po yata ang kinakailangan pang may tapusin patungkol diyan,” she added.

(So let us just wait and see how the bicameral conference committee process will proceed and how long it will take, because as far as we know, it is the Senate that still has to complete its work on the matter.)

She issued the remark when asked about Marcos' non-mention of the bill during his fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday.

In December 2025, Marcos urged Congress to prioritize the passage of the Anti-Dynasty Bill.

In June, the House passed an anti-political dynasty bill banning relatives up to the second degree of consanguinity or affinity from running for or occupying a post in the same constituency or jurisdiction on final reading.

However, business and civic groups have called on the Senate to reject the bill and urge Marcos to veto the measure, saying it would institutionalize political dynasties rather than dismantle them. —KG, GMA News
