PNP eyes community help desk for Filipino-Chinese concerns

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has recommended the creation of a community help desk to address the concerns of the Filipino-Chinese community in the country, GMA Integrated News' Unang Balita reported Wednesday.

Further, the PNP will also focus on efforts to maintain peace and order, and strengthen its Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG) in light of issues raised by the community.

The PNP made the recommendation after meeting with the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII) on Friday following the abduction and death of businessman Anson Que.

After the meeting, the PNP and FFCCCII agreed to establish a collaborative program focused on proactive measures to detect potential threats.

This includes enhancing coordination with local police units, strengthening surveillance efforts in key business hubs, and providing safety briefings to member companies and communities.

On April 9, the bodies of Que and his driver were found on a roadside in Rodriguez, Rizal.

Authorities have already identified suspects in the killings. The Bureau of Immigration has been informed about their identities to prevent them from leaving the country.

The PNP earlier said the perpetrators behind the kidnapping of Que may be linked to Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs). However, Que's family denied reports suggesting his involvement with POGOs.

"Mr. Tan has been engaged in legitimate business for decades, is a stalwart member of the Filipino Chinese business community, and is known for his charitable work," the family's statement read.

"During his lifetime, he stayed away from shady dealings and only did business with people he knew and trusted," it added. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
