Kontra Daya files DQ case vs Vendors party-list

Poll watchdog Kontra Daya on Tuesday filed a complaint against Vendors Party-list at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) because its nominees allegedly "do not represent the marginalized sector."

“It’s a big mockery of the law, particularly the Party-list System Act of 1995 to have party-lists like these. At dapat lang ma-disqualify sila,” added Arao.

Arao filed the complaint at the Comelec office in Intramuros, Manila. He was joined by the organization’s legal counsel, Atty. Joven Evangelista.
The complaint stemmed from the recent study of the Kontra Daya that showed 55.13% or 86 of the 156 party-list groups seeking seats in the House of Representatives for Eleksyon 2025 do not represent the poor or the underrepresented.
Vendors Party-list said it is targeting to advance the rights and opportunities for small businesses and vendors.
However, Kontra Daya said in its 33-page complaint, that its first three nominees Malou Lipana, Florencio Pesigan, and Sheryl Sandil do not represent the marginalized sector and have no bona fide intention to represent them.
The Comelec, for its part, said a Supreme Court decision ruled that party-list nominees may not be members of the marginalized sector they want to represent.
However, they should have proven advocacy in representing the sectoral group.
—VAL, GMA Integrated News
