PNP: Validated election-related incidents now 26

The number of validated election-related incidents (ERIs) has increased to 26, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday.

In an update as of April 14, 2025, the PNP said 17 of the validated ERIs were “violent” and nine were “non-violent.”

Most of the validated violent ERIs were reported in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao with seven, followed by Cordillera Administrative Region with five and Zamboanga Peninsula with two.

One validated violent ERI each were in the Ilocos Region, Davao Region, and Soccsksargen.

The PNP is still validating six suspected ERIs in Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and Soccsksargen

Gun ban

Meanwhile, the PNP said a total of 2,414 individuals were arrested for violating the election gun ban.

Most of them were from Metro Manila with 817, followed by Central Visayas with 331 and Central Luzon with 315.

The arrested election gun ban violators include the following:

  • 16 PNP personnel
  • 14 Armed Forces of the Philippines personnel
  • six personnel from other law enforcement agencies
  • nine elected government officials
  • two appointed government officials
  • five CAFGU Active Auxiliary
  • 12 foreign nationals
  • three children in conflict with the law
  • two communist rebels
  • 41 security guards
  • 2,304 civilians

A total of 2,484 firearms were seized — 947 revolvers, 697 pistols, 96 gun replicas, 59 explosives, 49 Class A guns, 20 rifles, 18 shotguns, five Class B guns, among others.

Election Day is on May 12, but overseas voters may cast their votes from April 13 to May 12, while local absentee voters may cast their votes from April 28 to 30. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
