Hacking attempts on Comelec website, overseas voting system unsuccessful

There have been unsuccessful cyber attacks on the Commission on Election's website and 60,000 failed attempts to hack its internet voting system for Filipinos overseas, the Commission on Elections said on Wednesday.
Comelec chairman George Garcia has lauded the poll body's personnel in charge of cyber security for keeping the hackers out.
Data provided by Garcia to GMA News Online showed that there have been 1.18 million traffic requests that were automatically blocked due to “cyber reputation.”
Some 71,780 traffic requests were tagged as “malicious” internet protocol (IP) addresses and were also blocked.
When asked how would Comelec ensure votes are secured amid the hacking attempts, he said, “proactive initiatives to combat hacking, 24 hours a day monitoring by our trained personnel, [and] procurement of state of the art equipment.”
Garcia told GMA News Online that the poll body is working with concerned agencies to address the matter.
Election day will be on May 12, 2025. –NB, GMA Integrated News
