Marcos calls for genuine service, self-offering to nation on Araw ng Kagitingan

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Wednesday called on Filipinos to follow the example of the heroes who defended Bataan by advancing causes that improve the lives of their fellow citizens as the country commemorated the 83rd anniversary of the Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor).

In a statement, Marcos emphasized that valor is not only about strength and resolve in the face of adversity but also about small acts of compassion, generosity, and kindness “that creates meaningful ripples of positive change in our communities.”

“As we face our challenges, may we follow their example by advancing causes that improve the lives of our fellow Filipinos,” the President said.

“Through acts of genuine service and self-offering to the nation, we can prove that we are not only made of the same noble stock as our noteworthy ancestors but also the rightful heirs of their heroic legacy and the faithful successors of their struggle to build a strong, secure, and prosperous Bagong Pilipinas,” he added.

Marcos also said that the story of the heroes of Bataan continues to inspire Filipinos as they carry on the work of protecting the nation and building a country worthy of their sacrifice.

On Wednesday morning, Marcos led the wreath-laying ceremony at the Dambana ng Kagitingan in Mount Samat National Shrine in Pilar, Bataan.

The Department of National Defense (DND) and the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO), meanwhile, are also spearheading the observance of Philippine Veterans Week from April 5 to 11, along with other government agencies.

Marcos earlier declared April 9, 2025 as a regular holiday to mark the Araw ng Kagitingan.
