Marcos on Eid'l Fitr: Live with compassion, uplift those in need

As the country joins Muslim brothers and sisters in observing Eid’l Fitr, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Monday called on the public to live with compassion and uplift those in need.

In his message, Marcos said the Festival of Breaking the Fast is more than a celebration; but, a testament to our desire for shared humanity, “strengthening bonds of family and friendship, as well as unity among our peers.”

“Beyond the values that Ramadan emphasized, let us continue to be inspired to extend our hands in service, uplift those in need, and help find joy in those who seek it,” Marcos said.

“Only through living with compassion and inclusivity can we appreciate and understand what Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) sought to accomplish—a life where harmony and love prevail upon us all,” he added.

The President further urged everyone to not forget the responsibility to one another.

“May the acts of kindness, engaging conversations, and delightful activities that bring communities together define our actions moving forward,” Marcos said.

“Let us continue to embody the virtues of dedication and faith so we can foster a more equitable and peaceful Bagong Pilipinas,” he added.

In his separate message, Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. also extended his warmest greetings to the Muslim communities around the world as they celebrate Eidl’l Fitr.

“As the holy month of fasting, deep reflection, and sacrifice comes to an end, may the lessons of this blessed occasion reign in your hearts, inspire you to be the best living examples of the Islamic faith, and serve as beacons of hope, kindness, and forgiveness,” Galvez said.

Galvez hoped that Muslims could inspire others to lend a helping hand to everyone, especially those who are most in need.

“Let us all work together to achieve our shared vision: a just and lasting peace for the Bangsamoro people and all Filipinos,” Galvez said.

“It is the OPAPRU’s earnest hope that this Eid brings you and your loved ones closer to Allah, strengthens your faith, and fills you with peace and gratitude that will last well beyond this year’s celebration?” he added.

Eid'l Fitr, or the Feast of Breaking the Fast, is the Muslim holiday that ends the holy fasting month of Ramadan.

The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos said Sunday the celebration of Eid’l Fitr will commence on Monday, March 31, 2025. This was after the crescent moon was sighted by several groups organized by the Bangsamoro Government, PAGASA, and others, and confirmed by authorities including the Bangsamoro Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdulrauf Guialani.

Monday, March 31, 2025, is a non-working holiday in BARMM and Sultan Kudarat. The University of Santo Tomas' General Santos City campus has suspended work and classes for the day.

Marcos earlier declared April 1, 2025 as a regular holiday throughout the country to mark Eid'l Fitr or the Feast of Ramadan. —KG, GMA Integrated News
