PH Coast Guard hails its first-ever female two-star general

The Philippine Coast Guard on Sunday announced Rear Admiral Mitzel Silva-Campo as the first woman to reach the rank of two-star general in the PCG, with her formal oathtaking scheduled for Monday, March 31, 2025.

Silva-Campo, a top graduate of the Coast Guard Officers Course Class-1 Charlie “Makagitaw,” was the first female one-star general among Coast Guard general line officers in October 2021.

Prior to her appointment, she also served as the first female Inspector General of the Coast Guard Inspector General-Internal Affairs Service, Coast Guard Adjutant, Commander of Coast Guard Doctrine, Development, and Research Command.

“[A]t the end of the day, it's never about the rank. It is about how well you lead, how much you serve, and how deeply you care," she was quoted as saying.

She completed a Juris Doctor degree at the Cor Jesu College in Digos City, and earned her Master of Science in Maritime Affairs, specializing in Maritime Law and Policy from the World Maritime University in Malmö, Sweden in 2009.

Silva-Campo, a fellow of the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies in Honolulu, Hawaii, also joined international training programs in Yokohama, Japan, and in Australia. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA Integrated News
