Senatorial bets Doringo, Ramos to push ban on agri land conversion

Senatorial candidates Mimi Doringo and Danilo Ramos vowed to stop the conversion of agricultural lands, which they said deprived Filipino farmers and food growers of land to till.

The Makabayan bets also expressed support to farmers from Central Luzon protesting at the Department of Agrarian Reform central office against alleged land grabbing and land use conversion.

"Lagi't lagi sa laban ninyo ay kasama niyo kami bilang mga consumer na nakikinabang sa paghihirap ng mga magsasaka," Doringo said.

If she wins, Doringo said she would also push for the repeal of the Rice Tariffication Law.

Pangilinan calls on gov’t intervention in NFA’s overstock rice; Aquino pushes for fishers’ rights amid commercial fishing

Meanwhile, re-electionists Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan and Paolo “Bam” Aquino sought measures to aid farmers and fisherfolk, and ensure stable rice supply.

Pangilinan said that the national government should intervene to address rice surplus this harvest season as the National Food Authority’s (NFA) warehouses are already full.

Despite the declaration of national food security last February, the senatorial candidate noted that there should be an “immediate action” to allow NFA to release its stocks.

Pangilinan added that he is planning to meet with Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. soon to share the farmers’ grievances regarding the rice surplus.

If re-elected, he said that he would possibly amend the Rice Tariffication Law.
