‘Mastermind’ in 2018 killing of businessman Dominic Sytin arrested in Malaysia —PRO-3

The alleged mastermind in the 2018 killing of businessman Dominic Sytin was arrested in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia, the Police Regional Office 3 (PRO-3) said Thursday.

In a statement, PRO3 said Alan Dennis Lim Sytin— brother of the victim— was arrested on March 22 with the help from the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP).

“[Alan Dennis Lim Sytin], who carried a P10 million bounty on his head, was the alleged mastermind behind the 2018 murder of his brother, Dominic Sytin, the President and Founder of United Auctioneers Inc,” PRO-3 said.

“He was arrested in a joint operation by the Office of the Police Attaché (OPA) in Malaysia, the Special Branch of the RMP, and IPD Petaling Jaya RMP on March 22, 2025, at 5:42 PM at the Cobra Rugby Club,” it added.

On November 28, 2018, the police said the gunman, identified as Edgardo Luib, shot the victim in front of a hotel in Subic Bay Freeport.

Luib, arrested and convicted for the crime, confessed that Alan Dennis orchestrated the killing.

Efforts are underway to facilitate Alan Dennis’ repatriation to the Philippines where he will face legal proceedings, according to PRO-3.

Meanwhile, an accomplice identified as Edrian T. Rementilla, also known as “Ryan Rementilla” and “Oliver Fuentes,” was also arrested in Iligan City on March 22, PRO-3 said.

“Rementilla, who had been evading authorities for years, was arrested on March 22, 2025, at around 10:30 PM in Purok 16, Buhanginan Hills, Pala-o, Iligan City,” PRO-3 said in a separate statement.

PRO-3 chief Police Brigadier General Jean Fajardo said the capture of the two suspects showed that justice will always prevail and international cooperation can bring fugitives to justice.

"You can run, but you can never truly hide. These arrests prove that no matter how long it takes, justice will always prevail. Let this be a strong message to all criminals—there is no escape. The law will find you, no matter where you hide," Fajardo said.

“This operation highlights the power of international cooperation in bringing fugitives to justice. It sends a strong message that no one can escape accountability, no matter where they flee,” she added. —Joviland Rita/RF, GMA Integrated News
