Philippines’ crime rate dips by 18.4% in Jan.-Mar 2025 —PNP

The crime rate across the country decreased by 18.4% in January to March this year, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Wednesday.

Citing a comparative 70-day crime statistics, the PNP said that the total cases of focus crimes dropped from 8,950 incidents recorded between November 3, 2024 and January 11, 2025 to 7,301 incidents from January 12 to March 22, 2025.

The eight focus crimes in the country include murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft, and carnapping of vehicles, and carnapping of motorcycles.

Specifically, the murder cases declined from 1,535 to 1,243, while cases of homicide and physical injury went down from 1,341 to 1,021; and from 1,002 to 663, respectively.

The PNP, however, noted that crimes like carnapping remained “relatively stable, with minimal fluctuations.”

The PNP also said that “notable reductions” in crimes were observed in the National Capital Region, Calabarzon, and Central Visayas.

PNP chief Police General Rommel Marbil expressed gratitude to those who made efforts to bring the crime rate down.

“This decline is a testament to our dedication, discipline, and commitment to public safety. By strengthening our crime prevention strategies, fostering community partnerships, and enhancing our operations, we will continue to make a meaningful impact in keeping our communities safe,” Marbil said in a statement.—Giselle Ombay/AOL, GMA Integrated News
