4Ps beneficiaries received smartphones for digital payout

Some beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) have received smartphones donated by Globe Telecom to receive payout through GCash, the telecom company said.

“Currently, many Level 1 4Ps households struggle to manage their funds digitally due to a lack of smartphones, relying on ATMs to receive P2,000 to P5,000 every two months through the program,” Globe said in a statement.

“By shifting to GCash, they can get their grants more securely and efficiently while reducing dependence on cash transactions,” it added.

Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian earlier urged 4Ps beneficiaries to fully utilize the donated smartphones and mobile payments service from Globe.

“Sa pamamagitan ng mga mobile phones, mas mabilis, ligtas, at episyenteng matatanggap ng 4Ps members ang kanilang cash grants at mas matutulungan sila sa mga transaksyong pinansyal, gaya ng paggamit ng digital banking at iba pang serbisyong maaaring makatulong sa kanilang kabuhayan,” Gatchalian said in a separate statement.

(Through mobile phones, 4Ps members will be able to receive their cash grants faster, safer, and more efficiently and they will be better assisted in financial transactions like digital banking and other services that can help their livelihoods.)

On March 18, around 50 4Ps beneficiaries from Navotas City and Malabon City received smartphones from Globe as part of the kick off ceremony for the project at the Navotas Sports Complex.

Gatchalian noted that only 32,684 4Ps beneficiaries who are classified under Level 1 or Survival Level of well-being and in Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs) will receive mobile phones.

Globe deputy CEO Carl Cruz said the company’s support aims to open doors to education, livelihood opportunities, and essential services.

“Hiling namin na ang mga cellphone na ito ay hindi lamang po magsilbing mga gadget sa pagtanggap ng ayuda, pantawag, pang-chat, pang-text o pang-browse sa social media,” Cruz said.

(We want that these cellphones not only serve as gadgets for receiving aid, calling, chatting, texting or browsing social media.)

“Hiling namin na ito ay magsilbing pintuan tungo sa mga oportunidad para sa mas magandang bukas para sa inyong mga pamilya katulad ng online education and micro or small businesses.  Kaya’t sana po ay magamit niyo ito sa mga makabuluhang gawain para sa ikaaangat ninyo sa buhay,” he added.

(We want that these serve as doors to opportunities for a better tomorrow for your families such as online education and micro or small businesses. So I hope you can use them for meaningful activities to uplift your lives.) —Joviland Rita/AOL, GMA Integrated News
