Kitty, Honeylet to visit Duterte in The Hague on his birthday
Former president Rodrigo Duterte’s daughter Veronica "Kitty" Duterte and common-law partner Honeylet Avanceña will visit him at the detention center in The Hague on March 28, Vice President Sara Duterte said.
In an ambush interview, the Vice President said Kitty and Avanceña’s visit will coincide with Duterte's birthday.
“Limited iyong time nila. So lahat ng time na puwedeng ibigay sa kanila, binigay sa kanila lahat. So kahit ‘yung birthday, binigay sa kanila ‘yung schedule ng time na pumasok sa loob,” Sara said.
(Their time is limited, so all the available time was granted to them, including the former president’s birthday.)
She added that Kitty will return to the Philippines to attend her classes, while Avanceña has business to manage.
The Vice President also said her mother, Elizabeth Zimmerman, will be in The Hague on March 28 or 29.
“Binigay namin kasi allowed siya ng two visits a day (we gave it to them because only two visits are allowed a day). So, one lawyer, and then one family visit,” the Vice President said.
Supporters of the Duterte family were also present during the interview.
Relaying her father’s message to them, the Vice President said, “If you are angry, you are allowed to say almost anything and that is okay.”
During her visit, the Vice President said she told her father to write a book to pass the time.
“Sabi ko, magsulat ka na lang ng libro (I told him to write a book) and then when you get out, we'll sell it and make money out of it,” she said, but the elder Duterte refused due to his age.
Instead of conducting a program for the elder Duterte’s birthday, the Vice President suggested having a picnic with the supporters so that permits would not be needed.
Earlier this month, Duterte was arrested and brought to The Hague for his alleged crimes against humanity in connection with his administration’s war on drugs. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/LDF, GMA Integrated News
