'THE MORE, THE MERRIER'

AFP welcomes reported deployment of second US Typhon to PH

AFP welcomed reports on the second deployment of Typhon missile system.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Tuesday welcomed reports on the second deployment of Typhon Mid-Range Capability (MRC) missile system from the United States (US) to the Philippines.

“This is a welcome development for the AFP... We can say that the more, the merrier. So, the more assets we have, the more also that we are able to train more personnel on our part," said AFP spokesperson Colonel Francel Margareth Padilla in a press briefing.

”Tinatangap po natin ‘to willingly (We accept this willingly),” she added.

Philippine Army spokesperson Colonel Louie Dema-ala said that the deployment of the additional Typhon from the US will speed up the training of their personnel.

“The Philippine Army would welcome this itong mga ganitong events dahil nga mas mabilis, mapabilis natin yung training ng ating mga personnel,” he said.

(The Philippine Army would welcome these kinds of events because we can speed up the training of our personnel.)

“Sa ngayon kasi, maliliit lang yung personnel na nati-train natin. So we welcome this kung meron mang darating,” he added.

(Right now, only a small number of personnel are being trained, so we welcome this if anything comes.)

According to a report of Defense News on March18, the US Army’s 3rd Multidomain Task Force was readying its Typhon battery for deployment in the Pacific theater.

This is the second Typhon to enter the region.

Asked about the matter, the US Embassy in the Philippines referred the matter to the US Army.

GMA News Online has sought comment from the Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM) about the report but it has yet to respond as of posting time. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
