FOR LOCAL BETS

Comelec to conduct Oplan Baklas on March 28, 2025

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is set to launch a nationwide campaign to remove illegal election materials at the start of the local campaign period for Eleksyon 2025.

Comelec chairperson George Erwin Garcia said Monday the poll body will hold a “Grand Oplan Baklas” to take down unlawful campaign materials mounted outside the designated common poster areas or other public places on Friday, March 28.

(We will have a Grand Operation Baklas on March 28.)

(This is happening nationwide —all Comelec offices will take part, and will remove illegally posted materials and those made from non-environmental friendly materials.)

As for campaign materials posted on private properties, Garcia called on owners to urge bets to adhere to the Comelec guidelines when posting their election campaign paraphernalia.

(We ask private property owners to impose limitations to those who will borrow their properties. We are also requesting that they urge bets to adhere to our requirements. We do not want to trample on their rights.)

The Comelec last month conducted Oplan Baklas to remove illegal campaign paraphernalia of senatorial candidates and party-list groups vying for national seats in Eleksyon 2025 as the poll body marked the start of their campaign period on February 28.

Meanwhile, the poll body earlier said it will issue notices to candidates directing them to remove unlawful campaign materials as well as election campaign paraphernalia mounted outside the designated areas within three days as part of "Oplan Baklas”.  Failure to comply may result in the filing of election offense, which may lead to disqualification.

The local campaign period for Eleksyon 2025 will start on March 28 and will last until May 10. The midterm elections are set for May 12,2025. —RF, GMA Integrated News
