PCO officials meet GMA executives, discuss fight vs. fake news

In an era where misinformation spreads rapidly through social media and various online platforms, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) headed by Ad Interim Secretary Jay Ruiz has taken proactive steps to address the growing concern of fake news.

Recently, representatives from the PCO embarked on a series of visits to key media outlets, aiming to foster collaboration in the fight against disinformation.

On Friday, Ruiz together with Palace Press Officer and Undersecretary Claire Castro and other PCO members visited GMA Network.

They were welcomed by GMA Network Inc president and CEO Gilberto Duavit Jr with some of the company’s executives including senior vice president for programming, talent management, worldwide, and support group Atty. Annette Gozon-Valdes; senior vice president and head of GMA Integrated News, Regional TV and Synergy Oliver Victor B. Amoroso, and vice president and head of corporate affairs and communications Angela Javier Cruz.

Duavit said that he is thankful for the said visit of the PCO.

He also stated that, “For 75 years GMA has consistently stood for integrity, objectivity, truthfulness and balance in the news and information we disseminate.”

Duavit also highlighted the crucial role of the collaboration between media organizations and other stakeholders in tackling the pervasive issue of misinformation and disinformation.

He also added that last year, GMA launched “Panata Kontra Fake News”, a campaign in collaboration with some 60 organizations including other media and institutions from the academe and technology sectors.

Ruiz on the other hand stated that “Our fight against fake news is not just the Government’s fight. It is everybody’s fight.”

Aside from this, Ruiz also said, “Ang ginagawa po namin ay we are dialoguing with the different networks, different radio stations and print media also to know the concerns ng ating current industry. Ang sa amin lang, ang panawagan namin, we need to balance the good news and the bad news."
