Comelec relaunches book compiling decisions, resolutions since 2021
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Thursday formally relaunched a publication compiling all promulgations and resolutions issued by the poll body since 2021.
Comelec Reports 2021 was created 12 years after its last iteration in 2010. According to the poll body, the book contains case laws related to the elections including electoral legislations, legal decisions, and resolutions under the Omnibus Election Code (OEC).
“Hindi namin alam ang kadahilanan pero mas maganda we move forward…Ang importante nasimulan na natin muli at every year, gagawin na natin ito,” poll chief George Erwin Garcia said.
(We’re not sure why it stopped publishing but we are moving forward. What’s important is we started it now and we will continue this every year.)
“Sana after our term…maituloy because kasama sa aming plano ang pagi-institutionalize ng lahat ng ginagawa natin,” he said.
(We are hoping it will continue even after our term. We are eyeing to institutionalize this.)
At least 200 copies of the book were printed and will be distributed in several government libraries.
“Mas maganda kasi mas marami para kahit ‘yung naglo-law, magpractice ng election law,” he said.
“Napakaganda ng election law practice at ng mga nilalaman ng Comelec reports sapagkat nandito ang Political law, Citizenship law, Constitutional law. Ganun kaimportante 'yan. Ang pinaka-foundation ng legal system, makikita rito,” Garcia added.
(It’s better if we have more copies so we can also encourage law students to practice election laws. This book also contains Political law, Citizenship law, Constitutional law. The very foundation of the legal system can be seen here.)
The poll body is likewise eyeing the establishment of an academy, which will provide short courses on the elections for the public as well as continued education for their employees.
“Human development, personal development also, must be a continuing process in the Comelec… Graft and corruption, beauracratic red tape, inefficiency, can be fought if the people are properly trained and experienced,” said Garcia. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
