Palace to local candidates: Be truthful

Malacañang on Thursday reminded candidates running for local posts to be truthful in their campaign.

Malacañang on Thursday reminded candidates running for local posts "to be truthful" in their campaign.

''Ang nais lamang po natin ay maging mahinahon sa kanilang pangangampanya, maging maayos, maging makatotohanang sa kanilang mga sasabihin,'' Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said at a press briefing.

(We want them to be calm during their campaign, we want them to be truthful with what they will say.)

''Huwag po sana silang magsagawa ng anumang pananalita na magki-create pa ng kaguluhan,'' Castro added.

(They should refrain from saying things that will only create hostilities.)

The candidates for House of Representatives and other local posts can only start campaigning starting March 28 until May 10.

Meanwhile, the campaign period for 66 senatorial candidates and 156 party-list groups started last February 11. It will end on May 10.

There are 69,673,655 registered voters for the May elections, according to the Commission on Elections.

Of the number 68,431,965 are in the country while 1,241,690 are overseas voters. Overseas voters may cast their votes from April 13 to May 12, while local absentee voters may cast their votes from April 28 to 30. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
