Marcos not asking for Guevarra's resignation — Palace

President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. is not asking for the resignation of Solicitor General Menardo Guevarra, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said Thursday.
At a press conference, Castro said she was able to talk to Marcos about Guevarra and the President said, ''Hindi ko hinihingi ang pagreresign niya.''
[I am not seeking his resignation.]
Castro said the President and Guevarra have already talked regarding the matter, noting that Marcos still trusts the solicitor general.
''Opo, nagkausap po sila at nakausap ko rin po ang Pangulo patungkol diyan at sinasabi niya po na hindi naman nawawala ang kaniyang tiwala kay SolGen Menardo Guevarra,'' Castro said.
(Yes, they have talked, and I also talked to the President about that, and he said he still trusts SolGen Menardo Guevarra.)
The Office of the Solicitor General had recused itself from petitions filed by former President Rodrigo Duterte's children before the Supreme Court seeking his release and return from The Hague, Netherlands.
In its nine-page motion, the OSG stated it “may not be able to effectively represent Respondents in these cases” due to its firm stance that the International Criminal Court (ICC) has no jurisdiction over the Philippines.
Meanwhile, the Department of Justice will represent the respondent government officials in the consolidated petitions of the Duterte siblings.
A day after, Guevarra said that he was leaving it up to President Marcos if he will be retained as the government's top lawyer. — RSJ/ VAL, GMA Integrated News
