Ariel Querubin wants scholarship for eldest child in family

Senatorial candidates continued making the rounds and expressing their platforms to fortify their chances in the upcoming May 2025 elections.

Retired Marine Colonel Ariel Querubin reiterated his campaign for educational reforms and scholarships for the eldest child in every family.

He said the education sector should receive the largest share of the national budget, stressing its role in “lifting families out of poverty.”

“Yung budget dapat ng education, hindi dapat nakakaltasan yan. Yan ang dapat pinakamalaki na budget,” Querubin said.

(The education budget should not be reduced. That should be the biggest budget.)

He also proposed creating a State Scholar Council to ensure the efficiency and transparency of his proposed “Panganay Scholar” program.

Meanwhile, independent senatorial candidate Norman Marquez pushed for the passage of the bill to strengthen the Animal Welfare Act.

In a Facebook post, Marquez said that the amendment removed the “oppressive, unconstitutional, and anti-poor provisions” of the bill.

The said provisions included the mandated registration with the Bureau of Animal Industries (BAI) and tax payments, submission of financial records, and several other approvals for individuals who own more than 10 pets. Failure to do so is punishable by penalty fees or detention.

Marquez said that the new amendment still has not included his recommendations for preventing the court from imposing low penalties for animal cruelty.

Senatorial candidate Angelo de Alban campaigned among vendors and consumers at the Trabajo Market in Manila.

Roberto Ballon was in Poblacion, Santa Fe in Nueva Vizcaya to campaign among residents in the area.

Roy Cabonegro, a candidate of the Democratic Party of the Philippines, also took to social media to call for donations for his electoral campaign.— Jiselle Anne Casucian/LDF, GMA Integrated News
