A reward worth P100,000 has been offered to anyone who can provide information on the perpetrators of the rape and killing of a Slovakian tourist in Boracay.
Aklan Rep. Teodorico Haresco, Jr. offered the bountry in the aftermath of the police identifying three persons of interest on the sexual assault and death of the 23-year-old Slovak Michaela Mickova.
Of the three suspects, two are under police custody.
“This is a devastating blow to our tourism industry. We must act swiftly and decisively to address this issue and restore public trust,” Haresco said in a statement.
“We need to reassure tourists that Boracay is a safe place,” he added.
In addition, the lawmaker said he is committed to working closely and extending financial assistance to law enforcement in Boracay to expedite the investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“The incident has understandably cast a shadow over Boracay’s reputation as a safe and welcoming destination, raising concerns about the future of tourism on the island. We will do everything in our power, together with our local officials in Boracay and Malay and national agencies concerned to prevent such incidents from happening again,” he added.
The 23-year-old Mickova was found dead in an abandoned chapel in the island two days after she went missing. The police reported that her body was decomposing and had no lower garment. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
