DepEd, LinkedIn partner to upskill over 200K teachers

The Department of Education (DepEd) has partnered with online professional network LinkedIn to enhance the professional development of over 200,000 public school teachers across the country.

Through this initiative, educators will be provided access to LinkedIn Learning courses, mapped to the Philippines Professional Standards for Educators. It will help teachers develop critical competencies in areas including creative thinking, data analytics, and digital skills amid an economy driven by artificial intelligence or AI.

Aside from teachers, DepEd will also make use of LinkedIn Talent Insights to shape and inform curriculum design, particularly for Grade 11 and 12 students.

This data-driven approach would help ensure that the way of teaching aligns with in-demand skills and competencies to better guide and prepare job-ready graduates.

At a press conference on Wednesday, Education Secretary Sonny Angara underscored the importance of the collaboration, considering how AI has been “changing and disrupting things very quickly.”

“I think in terms of lifelong learning and upskilling, in a very uncertain world where change is so rapid, this is a real asset to have this for our teachers, this option. And the option of also learning online makes it more accessible,” Angara said.

“It's part of their professional development, it's credited, it's part of the renewal of their licensure. So I think it's really a win-win for our teachers,” he added.—LDF, GMA Integrated News
