LIVE BLOG: Ex-Pres. Rodrigo Duterte arrested

Former President Rodrigo Duterte was taken into custody by authorities on Tuesday morning upon his arrival in Manila from Hong Kong.

Malacañang said Duterte was served a warrant of arrest issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for crimes against humanity. 

The ICC has been investigating Duterte and other officials of his administration for alleged crimes against humanity linked to thousands of deaths in police anti-drug operations.

Duterte arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 past 9 a.m. on a Cathay Pacific flight.

The ICC Prosecutor General served the arrest warrant, the Palace said.
