Go, Gringo air call for democracy, accountability on EDSA anniversary
Senatorial candidates continued to hit the road on February 25, which marked the 39th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution. Some also aired their views on various issues through their social media pages.
Before barangay officials in Camarines Sur, reelectionist Senator Bong Go underscored the importance of remembering the lessons of the 1986 People Power Revolution in defending democracy.
"In commemorating the 39th anniversary of the EDSA Revolution in February 1986, we should always remember the sacrifice of our people in restoring democracy. Tandaan po natin, we must protect democracy at all times," Go said.
"EDSA's spirit is now just about celebrating it every February but a constant reminder that when Filipinos stand with each other, we can achieve change and progress. EDSA is an ideal, a spirit that should live every day in our hearts and minds," he added.
Go also attended a gathering of barangay officials in Cavite for a team-building activity where he underscored the importance of unity and commitment to serving the people, reminding them to prioritize the welfare of the marginalized and ensure that government services reach every citizen.
In a radio interview, Honasan said the EDSA Revolution set the tone for bloodless revolutions and change worldwide.
He called on the public to keep monitoring and holding the government to a standard even after the conclusion of the 2025 elections and challenged the incoming government officials to show improvements in the economy and country.
Raul Lambino on Tuesday discussed several topics during his Facebook live including the anniversary of the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution.
"Naku, alam nyo nung araw medyo nagdududa nga ako na meron nga bang kabuluhan na pagdiwang natin itong EDSA People Power I revolution na nagarap noong Feb 25, 1986. Hindi po ba? At pinatalsik natin yung naunang rehimeng Marcos. At pagkatapos ng 5-6 na taong panunungkulan ng pumalit na administrasyon, marami ang nagsasabing mali yata yung pagpapatalsik doon sa nakaraang administrasyon ng Marcos," he stated.
(In the past, I was a bit doubtful that there was any point in us celebrating this EDSA People Power I revolution that was dreamed of on Feb 25, 1986. Isn't it? And we ousted the previous Marcos regime. After 5-6 years in office of the succeeding administration, many seemed to wonder if ousting the Marcos administration was indeed the right move.)
Former executive secretary Vic Rodriguez in a Facebook live, reiterated his stance against the 2025 national budget and the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte.
“Importante na nalalaman ninyo na hindi impeachment ang solusyon sa kagutuman. Hindi impeachment ang solusyon sa kriminalidad,” Rodriguez said.
(It’s important for you to know that impeachment is not the solution to hunger and criminality.)
“Ito pong ma-anomalya na impeachment complaint laban kay Vice President Inday Sara Duterte, hindi ito produkto ng rule of law. Ito po’y pagsasalaula sa ating Saligang Batas,” he added.
(This anomalous impeachment complaint against the Vice President is not a product of rule of law. This bastardizing the Constitution.)
Last month, Rodriguez, along with Davao City 3rd District Representative Isidro Ungab, and others asked the Supreme Court (SC) to declare the 2025 national budget unconstitutional amid alleged irregularities and supposed blank items in the bicameral conference committee report.
Senatorial bet Jimmy Bondoc, in a Facebook post, also reacted to the petition in the SC to issue a temporary restraining order against the implementation of the 2025 national budget, citing the absence of funding for the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth).
“Please, understand the issues. Lawyers from all over acknowledge the unconstitutionality of the 2025 budget. This is no longer political. It is for our survival,” the singer-lawyer said.
To recall, Bondoc was also among those who filed falsification of legislative documents and graft complaints in the Office of the Ombudsman against Speaker Martin Romualdez and five others over alleged billions worth of insertions in the 2025 national budget.
1-Rider party-list Rep. Bonifacio Bosita, retired Philippine Marine Corps officer Ariel Querubin and former National Commission on Indigenous Peoples chairperson Allen Capuyan took part in a forum in Quezon City.
Querubin tackled the importance of strengthening the country’s defense. He stated that the Philippines cannot depend on allies forever and that the country must learn to defend itself against other superpowers due to the strategic nature of its location.
