SC to Leo Marcos: Explain withdrawal from senatorial race

The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday ordered former aspirant Francis Leo Marcos to explain why he should not be cited in contempt following his withdrawal from the senatorial race after being granted a temporary restraining order (TRO).
“The Court ordered Marcos to show cause within 72 hours from notice why he should not be cited in contempt for his actions which tend to bring the court’s processes into disrepute or disrespect,” SC spokesperson Atty. Camille Ting said in a press briefing.
Ting said the High Court issued a temporary restraining order on January 21 against Marcos’ disqualification in the upcoming elections.
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) earlier revoked Marcos’ certificate of candidacy after he was labeled as a nuisance candidate.
On January 23, however, Marcos withdrew his candidacy from the elections, saying he is doing so to prevent wastage of government funds for the reprinting of ballots and to give way for the reelection bid of Senator Imee Marcos.
The Election Day is on Monday, May 12.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
