Manila schools honor EDSA People Power on 39th anniversary

Several schools in Metro Manila on Monday commemorated the 39th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution through various activities.

Yellow ribbons and banners were prominently displayed at the Adamson University campus in Manila.

In a statement, Adamson University president Fr. Daniel Franklin Pilario emphasized the importance of color and other symbols in the political and social landscapes.

“They express our identity as a social group, help us protest against the present systems or rally people towards an alternative vision,” Pilario said.

“At the height of the Martial Law, yellow was the color of resistance,” he added.

Adamson University also conducted a solidarity walk and candle lighting ceremony as the students and staff were urged to wear yellow shirts.

Meanwhile, Colegio de San Juan de Letran Manila honored the People Power Revolution anniversary through a commemorative mass and an academic discussion.

The school also hosted an archival exhibit on the 1986 uprising and conducted a seminar on combating disinformation and preserving historical truth on Saturday.

On February 25, the De La Salle Philippines will conduct an online webinar titled “EDSA@39: Its Relevance in the Digital Age and the 2025 Election.”

The University of Santo Tomas Department of Journalism will also hold a film screening of the documentary “(Which) People, (What) Power?” and a panel discussion on February 26.

The documentary follows a Gen Z character and his encounter with key figures of the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution.

Several schools have announced the suspension of classes on Tuesday to commemorate the 39th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution.

This year, the EDSA People Power Revolution anniversary was declared a special working day.
