CEAP: Schools 'recommit to EDSA spirit,' to commemorate EDSA revolution in 2025

The Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP) said member schools will “recommit to the EDSA spirit” and observe the event in various forms in this year’s commemoration.

“The CEAP believes that the spirit of the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution remains alive today,” the Catholic school group said in a statement posted on its Facebook page.

“The EDSA spirit is a shining moment in our life and history as a people. It showed the world what is best in the Filipino, how we can transcend ourselves and sacrifice for our country, how we choose peace over violence. We urgently need to re-ignite this spirit today, especially in the upcoming May election, and in our daily exercise of our rights, freedoms, and responsibilities,” it added.

As part of its decision, CEAP schools are considering options that would be “courageous, creative and community-centered” celebrations of the EDSA spirit. These include: eucharistic celebrations; suspension of classes and work on February 25; alternative classes; commemorative conferences and fora; reflection sessions and conversations; and community outreach and social-cultural events.

“The 1986 EDSA People Power revolution shall always be a constitutive dimension of learning of our students. Philippine and Catholic education shall never be without it. CEAP shall push back all attempts to deny, distort, downgrade, and devalue it in our schools, in our communities, and in our life as a nation,” assured CEAP. —RF, GMA Integrated News
