Nadine Lustre backs De Lima, Mamamayang Liberal party-list

Showbiz personality Nadine Lustre on Thursday endorsed the bid of the Mamamayang Liberal (ML) party-list led by former Senator Leila de Lima for a seat in the House of Representatives.

The actress and entrepreneur made her endorsement through a video message posted by the group, narrating how she is already fed up with people who abuse their power and those in government who cannot explain where public money was spent.

Theatrics in politics, she said, should be left to the movies and television, not governance.

“Real talk. Sawa na ba kayo? Sawa na sa mga abusado sa kapangyarihan? Sa mga nasa pwesto na hindi marunong magpaliwanag kung saan napunta ang pera ng bayan? At yung drama, okay lang sa pelikula at sa TV. Pero pag sa gobyerno na, ibang usapan na ‘yan,” Lustre said.

“Nakakapagod. Pero, may laban tayo. Mas handa po ako na ituloy ang laban. Si Manay Leila de Lima, ilang taong ikinulong ng walang kasalanan. Pero, lumaban. Ngayon, kasama niya ang ML Party List para ipaglaban ng katarungan, pananagutan, at tunay na representasyon,” she added. 

De Lima faced three drug-related charges during the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte, but the courts ultimately dismissed them. She was released from prison after seven years.

The ML party-list’s second nominee is former Ifugao lawmaker Teddy Brawner Baguilat Jr., while the third nominee is former House Deputy Speaker Erin Tañada.—Llanesca Panti/LDF, GMA Integrated News
