NCSC, NCIP ink deal to enhance welfare of elderly indigenous people

The National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) and the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) on Monday signed an agreement to ensure that Indigenous senior citizens are given their benefits and receive other government services.
Under Republic Act No. 11982 or the Expanded Centenarians Act, senior citizens are entitled to receive P10,000 upon reaching 80, 85, 90, and 95 years old and P100,000 upon turning 100 years old.
In a statement, NCSC said the memorandum of understanding strengthened the implementation of other government services, including healthcare and social services, and discounts and privileges.
The NCSC and NCIP also plan to conduct a joint activity during the Elderly Filipino Week Celebration, which coincides with Indigenous People's Month in October.
“This partnership empowers the elderly IPs to actively participate in social, cultural and economic developments, and cooperate in the smooth implementation of RA No. 11982 for the IP Community,” NCSC said.
