Affordable NFA rice to be available in Kadiwa stores next week

Rice from the National Food Authority (NFA) warehouses will be available in Kadiwa stores and select retailers starting next week.

According to an exclusive report by Bernadette Reyes on 24 Oras Friday, NFA warehouses in the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Western Visayas, and SOCCKSARGEN remain well-stocked.

To free up space ahead of the upcoming harvest season, the NFA will begin selling newly stocked rice under the Rice for All Program at P35 per kilo, the report stated.

The government’s food security emergency declaration has allowed the NFA to release buffer stocks to help stabilize rice prices.

"Puwede ‘yan under the food security emergency. Puwede namin i-release kasi inatasan kami ni DA, i-release niyo ang stocks niyo," said NFA Administrator Larry Lacson.

(This is allowed under the food security emergency. We can release the stocks as instructed by the Department of Agriculture.)

Additionally, starting next week, aging rice stocks will be sold at a lower price of P29 per kilo, exclusively for senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), solo parents, and beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps). — Vince Angelo Ferreras/DVM, GMA Integrated News
