Marcos urges local chiefs to keep up with latest technology

President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Wednesday called on local chief executives to make use of the latest technologies so that localities can keep up with global advancements and provide better service to the public.

Marcos made the pitch during the 2025 League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) General Assembly at The Manila Hotel.

“What faces us today is a highly technical world, a highly technical system for our different economies, for the global economy, and a rapidly accelerating development in all kinds of research and technology,” Marcos said in his speech.

“That is why we must keep up with that (technological advancement),” he added.

According to Marcos, it is important for the public to learn how to use the latest technology when it comes to ''providing faster, more convenient, and more accountable services.''

“We have seen the differences not only within our political system but also with the different countries around the world,” Marcos said, adding that other nations have already developed and adopted faster technologies, which later led to their progress.

Aside from technological advancement, Marcos mentioned that local chief executives should also assess their disaster preparedness and mitigation strategies to address the severe weather disturbances caused by climate change.

He said that at present, typhoons are more frequent and devastating, making more areas vulnerable to floods and landslides.

“Kailangan na natin tingnan ano ang naging problema sa mga nakaraan dahil ang mga nangyayari, ang panahon ngayon, ang weather ngayon ay hindi na natin maasahan ‘yung mga dating ginagawa natin,” Marcos said.
