VP Sara has answered allegations before impeachment
Vice President Sara Duterte has denied most of the allegations in the impeachment complaints even before they were filed at the House of Representatives, according to a report on "24 Oras."
These include using confidential funds, which, according to her camp— they will explain to the Commission on Audit (COA).
She also denied the alleged bribery of some Department of Education (DepEd) officials and said that the credibility of some was questionable, so she fired them.
The Dutertes have previously denied that they have hidden wealth.
The vice president also distanced herself from former President Rodrigo Duterte's criticism of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. at the Maisug Rally in January 2024.
Meanwhile, about the alleged threat to the president, she denied that it was an assassination plot and asked how it would be considered revenge if she was dead.
The House of Representatives on Wednesday impeached Vice President Sara Duterte with 215 members of Congress endorsing the verified complaint against her, which has been transmitted to the Senate for her impeachment trial.
The complainants moved to impeach Duterte "based on the grounds of Culpable Violation of the Constitution, Betrayal of Public Trust, Graft and Corruption, and Other High Crimes."
As the 215 endorsers exceeded one-third of the House membership of 306, the complaint went straight to the Senate as provided in the 1987 Constitution.
Senate Secretary Renato Bantug Jr. officially received the Articles of Impeachment against Duterte from House Secretary General Reginald Velasco at about 5:50 p.m.
The impeachment complaint largely stemmed from the House Good Government and Public Accountability Panel's inquiry on the use of confidential funds by the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education (DepEd) under Duterte's leadership.
