PCG receives 55-meter vessel from Philippine Red Cross

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) donated a 55-meter vessel to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) that will be used for medical and humanitarian aid during emergencies in remote areas like Pagasa Island.

In a statement on Friday, the PCG said the deed of donation signing ceremony for the “M/V Amazing Grace” was held on Thursday at the PRC National Headquarters in Mandaluyong City.

"We are very fortunate that the Red Cross has recognized that transferring a key asset of the PRC to the Coast Guard would somehow enable both of us to put more value to this asset,” PCG chief Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan said.

“Rest assured that the coast guard will do everything we can to put that value both of us desires,” he added.

For his part, PRC chairman Richard Gordon hoped that the vessel would be used effectively, particularly for missions to remote areas like Pagasa Island.

M/V Amazing Grace will serve as a critical asset in delivering medical and humanitarian aid to remote communities, particularly in coastal areas, according to the PCG.

The new asset will also enhance PCG’s capacity to respond to emergencies, natural disasters, and public health crises, the agency added. — Joviland Rita/BAP, GMA Integrated News
