Protesters call for VP Sara’s impeachment at EDSA People Power Monument

Protesters on Friday morning gathered at the EDSA People Power Monument in Quezon City to call for the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte.
Around 9 a.m., protesters started to arrive at the venue holding placards calling for the removal of Duterte from post.
“Impeach! Impeach Sara now!” the protesters chanted as seen in a video posted by Akbayan on Facebook.
The protesters were calling on the House of Representatives to act on the impeachment complaints filed against the Vice President in December 2024, according to Akbayan.
Akbayan Party-list Rep. Perci Cendaña said.
(What date is it already? January is about to end, but Congress still hasn't acted on the impeachment complaints. Will the Congress lose and be scared by Sara and her invalid excuses?)
“The time has come to take decisive action and finally impeach the Vice President.
(The time has come to take decisive action and finally impeach the Vice President. While she is still in the position, we are allowing plunder to prevail in our government.)
According to Akbayan, around 5,000 people joined the protest.
The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said 2,000 personnel were deployed and 1,000 personnel were on standby to secure the activity.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) advised motorists to avoid the area due to possible heavy traffic, Jhomer Apresto reported on GMA Integrated News’ Unang Balita.
The protest action is expected to end at 12 noon.
On January 10, House Secretary General Reginald Velasco confirmed that the three impeachment complaints filed against Duterte have all been verified.
Cendaña urged House members to prioritize the country’s interests over political calculations.
We must uphold our constitutional mandate to revoke the powers of abusive government officials,” he said.
(What should prevail is our moral and national obligation, not worries in the upcoming election. We should not be affected if our support for the impeachment will increase or decrease the votes for us. We must uphold our constitutional mandate to revoke the powers of abusive government officials.)
GMA News Online sought comment from the camp of the Vice President but has yet to receive a reply as of posting time.
Duterte earlier said she welcomes the impeachment complaints filed against her.
(So, it’s okay they filed an impeachment case since I’ll only be the one who's being attacked. I’ll only be the one who's being investigated. I’ll only be the one who is being attacked in the impeachment case.)
