525 inmates released in January 2025 — BuCor

A total of 525 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) were released in January, bringing the total number of released PDLs under the Marcos administration to 18,947, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) announced Thursday.

Data from the agency showed that 36 were from the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong, Iwahig, and Mindanao; 71 from the Davao Prison and Penal Farm; 52 from the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm; 27 from the Leyte Regional Prison; 66 from the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm; and 34 from the San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm.

Meanwhile, 239 were from the New Bilibid Prison in Mandaluyong City.

“Sa inyong lahat na nandito, may haharapin na naman kayo. You will now face another chapter in your life, but we don’t want you to fail. Huwag kayo mawawalan ng pagasa,” BuCor Director General Gregorio Catapang Jr. said in his speech.

According to BuCor, 412 were released after the expiration of their maximum sentence, 68 were acquitted, 32 were granted parole, and four were granted probation, among others.
