A total of 408 violators of the election gun ban have been arrested since the start of the election period last January 12, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Wednesday.
In its update, the PNP said most of the nabbed individuals were reported in Metro Manila with 112, followed by Central Luzon with 87, and Central Visayas with 43.
Among the arrested suspects were four Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) personnel, two personnel of other law enforcement agencies, eight security guards, one appointed government official, and three foreign nationals.
A total of 416 firearms were seized including 175 revolvers, 115 pistols, 10 explosives, seven shotguns, seven rifles, one M15 A2 rifle, and 101 others.
The number of election-related incidents of violence remained at seven.
Based on Comelec Resolution No. 11067, the gun ban is effective starting January 12 to June 11 in a bid to lessen election-related violence.
The campaign period for senatorial candidates and party-list groups is set from February 11 to May 10, 2025. Meanwhile, the campaign period for candidates for House of Representatives and parliamentary, provincial, city and municipal elections will be from March 28 to May 10.
