Former Health Secretary Janette Garin and others are facing a new complaint before the Department of Justice (DOJ) in connection with deaths allegedly linked to the Dengvaxia vaccine.

According to Manny Vargas’ Tuesday report on Super Radyo dzBB, four individuals filed a complaint for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide against Garin and other former officials.

They were also accused of violation of Republic Act 9745 or Anti-Torture Act of 2009.

Aside from this, the complainants alleged that Garin and others violated the Consumer Act of the Philippines and the Philippine Pharmacy Act.

This came a day after the Department of Justice (DOJ) withdrew 19 counts for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide that were filed against Garin and two others.

When sought for comment, Garin said that she will wait for a copy of the complaint.

“We will await a copy but malamang it will still be the same copied and pasted complaint and fake autopsy report,” she said in a message to reporters.

Garin earlier described the DOJ's decision to drop the previous charges against her as a "victory for science."

"It affirms that public health decisions based on sound evidence and expert guidance cannot be tainted by baseless accusations," Garin said in a statement.

In 2017, the FDA ordered the suspension of the sale, distribution, and marketing of the Dengvaxia vaccine and the withdrawal of the product from the market.

This came after Dengvaxia manufacturer Sanofi warned that the vaccine may cause severe diseases in the long run for those who have not been infected by dengue prior to the vaccination.
