Over 150 Bilibid inmates transferred to Leyte prison
More than 150 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City have been transferred to the Leyte Regional Prison in Abuyog, Leyte, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said Wednesday.
In a Facebook post, the BuCor said the inmates arrived at their new correction facility Tuesday on board four buses.
Security escorts from the NBP were deployed for the transfer. When inmates' convoy arrived at Tacloban City, personnel from the Leyte Regional Prison (LRP) and the Baybay City police provided additional security.
Canine units inspected the items brought by the PDLs to prevent the entry of contraband into the prison premises.
Albuyog is over 900 kms away from Muntinlupa City, with a public transport travel time of more than 22 hours.
According to a report by Luisito Santos on Super Radyo dzBB, the BuCor said more than 9,000 PDLs from NBP have been transferred so far to other prisons and penal farms in preparation for the closure of the Muntinlupa City-based jail facility in 2028. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/ VDV, GMA Integrated News
