LTFRB commends Iloilo driver for returning lost bag containing P2.4M to owner

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board has commended a taxi driver for returning a passenger’s bag containing P2.4 million left behind in his vehicle.

In a statement issued Wednesday, the LTFRB described the action an “exemplary act of honesty” and called Anthony Barredo Aguirre a model for the transport sector.

“Mr. Aguirre’s exemplary act of honesty is proof that there are still good and honorable Filipinos who prioritize integrity over personal gain,” said LTFRB chairperson Attorney Teofilo Guadiz III.

Guadiz encouraged other vehicle drivers to follow Aguirre’s example.

The incident occurred in Iloilo City after Aguirre was called by his operator regarding a bag possibly left behind in his taxi, which he eventually found under the seat.

He later brought the bag to the local police station to make sure it is returned to its rightful owner.

“Although such an amount could have been a great help in their lives, he still chose to do what is right. His actions inspire trust and respect for the transport industry,” Guadiz said.

“Honesty like this deserves recognition. We hope Mr. Aguirre’s story serves as a reminder of the importance of doing what is right, even when no one is watching,” he praised. — Jiselle Anne Casucian/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
